Our Community Involvement

At Red Sail Sports, we believe it is important to play an active roll in the community and to set a good example for our children. That’s why we provide education and on-the-job training for local children through a variety of programs.

In addition, we support both the Special Olympics Cayman Islands and the Lighthouse School for children with special educational needs.

Special Olympics Cayman Islands

Red Sail Sports and the Red Sail Group are proud supporters of the Cayman Islands Special Olympics. A longtime advocate of the non-profit sports training program, which caters to athletes with intellectual disabilities from 8 years of age onwards.

In fact, one of Red Sail Sports’ own employees is none other than Andrew Smilley, who won Gold in both the 200-meter individual medley and the 400-meter freestyle at the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games.

Four years later, Andrew brought home Gold again, winning the 1.5-kilometre open water swim at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Greece.

The Red Sail Group, an affiliation of companies, continues to give financial assistance to support the Special Olympics Cayman Islands, otherwise known as SOCI, and their athletes.

The donations help support SOCI with its mission to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults.

Work Experience Experience and Internships

Red Sail Sports remains committed to our local schools and students and will once again welcome students on work experience and apprenticeships for the upcoming school year.  Two of the larger programs we are involved with are CIFEC and SHS.

CIFEC (Cayman Islands Further Education Centre) – Red Sail Sports will take on up to 10 students who will work 2 days and attend classes 3 days per week throughout the school year.

School of Hospitality Studies (SHS): Now in its 2nd year, the SHS works with local employers such as Red Sail Sports to expose their students to tourism-related opportunities.

During the first semester, all students will do a rotation with many local employers within the tourism/hospitality industry, including Red Sail. In the second semester, students will be matched with employers for apprenticeships.

The goal of all of the school programs is to increase awareness and encourage our young Caymanians to consider a career in tourism.

National Trust

Along with the Cayman Islands National Trust’s mission “To preserve natural environments and places of historic significance in the Cayman Islands for present and future generations”, Red Sail Sports understands it is everyone’s responsibility to protect and preserve Cayman’s heritage and assists the National Trust wherever possible.
